Bloomfield Fine Goods
Bath and body wellness products handmade with love & natural ingredients in Petaluma, CA.
My name is Whitney and I am the owner/maker behind Bloomfield Fine Goods. I am a mom of two crazy/beautiful kiddos, a daughter who is five going on sixteen and a son who is two. I create bath and body products that are made with natural (organic when possible), plant-derived ingredients. I do not use synthetic dyes/colorants nor do i use synthetic fragrances. Only the real thing, graciously provided by Mother Nature.
A little history...
This passion of mine was sparked years ago. I was a healthy 21-year-old, my medical history was pretty unremarkable aside from a few childhood ear infections. I'd met and fallen in love with the man of my dreams (who is now my husband) and we'd decided to start trying for a baby. Then. Nothing. Happened. We weren't sure what was going on.
Then in mid-March of 2014, everything changed. I was at work when all of a sudden I was doubled over in pain, my abdominal area hurt so bad it was as if I'd just been kicked! I left work and drove myself to the emergency room (yes, in retrospect, not the smartest idea). My (now) husband met me there, they asked routine questions... yada yada. I thought this was it, I thought I was pregnant and this was some weird first trimester pain. I didn't know, I'd never done this before. They did a pregnancy test. Sure that we were gonig to hear those longed for words, we waited. And waited.
The doctor came back...and the news...NOT PREGNANT. I was disapppointed, but still okay. Then they went ahead and did an ultrasound to see if there was anything else going on. Well there was. The doctor came back in after reviewing the results and spoke those words I will never forget. "We'll need to do more tests, but it looks like you have something called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Not only are you not pregnant, but you may not ever be able to have your own children." I was absolutely devastated.
After the diagnosis, I wondered why I had this condition. I knew nothing about it, so I did some research. Basically it is a hormonal imbalance that affects different systems in the body, along with things like menstration and fertility. I also discovered that many, if not all of the products I had been using all my life could have contributed to my diagnosis. I learned that the soaps, shampoos/conditioners, make-up and hair products, cleaning products/etc. I'd been using contain toxic chemicals like parabens, pthalates, synthetic dyes/fragrance. Some of these chemicals are called EMCs or estrogen mimicking compounds. These chemicals get into your bloodstream and cause all kinds of problems. I was furious to find this out and grabbed a garbage bag and threw almost everything out. I couldn't believe these products were being sold in stores! You see, you go into a store and assume products being sold are safe, but unfortunately you cannot assume that. From then on it was about reteaching myself. ALWAYS READ THE INGREDIENTS!
So here we are, years down the road. I now have had two healthy babies (with a little help from my OB/GYN.) I started experimenting with making my own products and found my passion! I loved the idea creating something from scratch, where I knew exactly what is in it. Then last year, I decided to try this for real! Now my passion has morphed into a small but mighty business.
Many people ask where my business name originated...I named my business Bloomfied Fine Goods because we are proud of the charming old township we live in, called Bloomfield, which is now a part of Petaluma here in beautiful Sonoma County (in Northern California.) We (my husband, daughter, son and I) have our own little slice of heaven here including four dogs, two cats and seven chickens. We are surrounded by rolling hills and hundreds of cows and just a short 15 minute drive to the beach. We are so lucky and I wanted to honor our home where all this madness began.
I create, make, package, label and distribute all products myself and I am committed to formulating products using natural plant-derived ingredients. My hope is that you can feel the love that I pour into each and every one of them. Give us a try today!
