Description
This wine is a loving ode to my grandparents and the years leading up to their wedding at St. Mary’s Church in Nicasio, California.
Joseph Dennis McNeil courted Ellen Josephine Redding via the U.S. Postal Service from 1925 to 1928. The envelopes began as fully addressed-musings to Ellen Redding at 309 Fifth Avenue in San Rafael, California. The envelopes were so colorful and frequent that the addressee eventually read as simply “Ellen, San Rafael.” More than 50 different envelopes exist, although each of the letters contained inside remain strictly between Joseph and Ellen.
Each new vintage and colorful envelope tells their story.
VINEYARD
Located only 13 miles from Tomales Bay, Stubbs Vineyard is one of Marin County’s stalwart coastal vineyard sites. The farming practices are highly organic and always sustainable. The entire property is ‘off the grid’ and operates entirely on its own resources. The resulting fruit from Stubbs Vineyard is elegant, fresh, very concentrated for such a cool site, and incredibly varietal.
FERMENTATION
Stainless steel native fermentation; no malolactic fermentation. Aged in neutral French oak barrels for twelve months.
TASTING NOTES
No oak, no butter, ALL Chardonnay! Tropical, pineapple cocktail, ginger chew, orange zest, and asian spice. High natural acidity, with incredible purity of fruit.
