Just Jan's was born out of my love of cooking and creating unique flavors. I enjoy the community that forms when we share what we make. Growing up in Burbank, CA I got to experince this first hand baking lemon meringue pies from the lemon trees in my backyard and sharing them with friends. It's from these memories that some of my first Just Jan's recipes were inspired.

Today the recipes still start in my kitchen with the same sense of play. Although I don’t get the fruit from my backyard, we source the highest quality ingredients to ensure that what’s in every jar has the same delicious taste and texture as what I make in my kitchen. Not just for toast, Just Jan's creations are the perfect compliment to cheese, baked goods and even cocktails, the uses are limitless. I hope you find as much inspiration in using these products as I had making them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the name Just Jan’s come from?

I honestly cannot remember how I landed on Just Jan’s name. However, while designing art for the labels I played with a few name ideas but Just Jan’s stuck in my head. When I told my mom that I was starting the company and thinking of calling it Just Jan’s, she said “I’m not sure I ever told you this story but when I was pregnant with you, your dad knew he was dying and before you were born - he said, I know you’re going to have a little girl and I’d like you to name her just Jan. Not short for Janice or Janelle - just Jan.” Upon hearing this and getting goosebumps, I knew Just Jan’s had to be the name.

How long do the spreads last after opening?

All of our products are made in steam jacketed kettles and are pasteurized during the jarring process. This process makes our spreads shelf stable and also means that they will last for months in the refrigerator after opening.  Although they never last that long in my house, we use them in a variety of recipes so they get used up quickly!

How long can I store Just Jan’s spreads and curds?

All our spreads and tangerine sriracha can be stored for up to 3 years from time of production and we produce new batches frequently. The curds have a 20 month shelf life.

Are Just Jan’s products organic? Our products are all natural, no preservatives and nothing artificial.  The strawberry spread is our only organic product.

Does Just Jan’s contain any artificial sweeteners? Nope, we use pure cane sugar and nothing else for sweetening.

Why are they called a spread and not a jam?

We don’t use enough sugar.  Believe it or not, the FDA requires a specific amount of sugar, measured in brics, that needs to be in the product in order to be considered a jam. We use the amount of sugar we think is appropriate, and that amount does not meet the jam threshold, so we’re a spread instead.
