Learn about the land and Makers that make each region unique.

The Hudson River Region

From Manhattan and Brooklyn to the Catskills and the Adirondacks, the Hudson River region is home to extraordinary farms, artisans and Makers. Long the breadbox for New York City’s restaurant scene, this region is celebrated for its growers, distillers, brewers, bakers and food artisans, while its thriving arts scene draws inspiration from rich urban and rural landscapes. Of course, this is nothing new: the shores of the Hudson River have historically inspired Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and the naturalist, John Burroughs. It’s a land that unites cosmopolitan thinkers with staggering natural beauty.

The Greater Bay Area

From the ancient redwoods and pristine waters of the Coldwater Coast to California’s world famous Wine Country; to Berkeley, the birthplace of California Cuisine; to the farms of the Golden Empire that grow the vegetables and fruit that feed the nation; to urban Makers in San Francisco and Oakland on the leading edge of design; to Silicon Valley Makers using technology to elevate their craft; on down through the storied fisheries of Monterey Bay, the greater San Francisco Bay Area Region is synonymous with good food and drink, innovation and unique design. A diverse region that honors the foodways of its indigenous peoples and embraces immigrants from all parts of the world, the melting pot that is Northern and Central California offers a veritable groaning board of artisan Makers.

The New England Region

At New England Doorstep Market, we know what a lobster freshly harvested from the waters of Maine tastes like, what the unique terroir of the Northeast Kingdom adds to maple syrup and how the fertile soil of the Connecticut River Valley helps New England cows produce fine artisan cheeses and savory grass-fed beef. We also revel in the vibrancy and variety available to our palates from the members of many cultures that have moved to New England over the years. From Southeast Asia, Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East, these New Englanders produce delicious pad thai, samosas, papusas and falafel. Their foods inform our idea of New England food just as much as chowder, beans and lobster.
