Description

Save some $ (and help us fishermen minimize waste) by cooking up some of the less common seafood cuts and species in our “Trash” Fish Mix Box! As conservation minded commercial fishermen, we hate to see a single morsel of the seafood we land go to waste. In fact, it is often some of the most delicious parts of the fish and lesser-know species that are overlooked by consumers.

Such is the case with our Black Cod collars. This cut is the part of the fish where the head meets the body and is often discarded once the fish has been filleted. Bone-in and skin-on, we love to use a miso marinade on these then throw them on the grill or bake them nice and hot. Similarly, our wild King salmon meat is the scrap meat that is left on the fish after it has been filleted. This is just pure salmon meat, no bones or skin. We use it to make fish cakes (delicious at breakfast), salmon burgers, or simply stir fry it up with some veggies and rice.

Our Alaska Rockfish is bycatch when we are targeting our Black Cod and Halibut. Landing and marketing this Rockfish bycatch helps to ensure nothing goes to waste. Southeast Alaska fishermen have worked closely with scientists and fishery managers to ensure the long term health of wild rockfish populations. Our Rockfish fillets come in approximately 1 lb. bags and are free of bones and skin.

10 lb. “Trash” Fish Mix Box includes:

  • 3 lb. Black cod collars (~1 lb. of collars in each package)
  • 3 lb. Rockfish fillets (~1 lb. of fillets in each package)
  • 4 lb. King Salmon meat (great for fish cakes or burgers!)

A 10 lb. mix box will use approximately 1 cubic foot of space in your freezer and provide 10+ meals for two people.
